The Wheeler Estate

Our History

The Wheeler Estate is a family business run by Chris and Rachel Moon. Our farm is located on a quiet country road in Newdigate, Surrey. We are close to Dorking and Horsham and 30 miles from the centre of London and Brighton. The farm is set in the middle of 47 acres of land. A mixture of pasture and grazing surrounded by an ancient woodland carpeted in bluebells and wild garlic. The Estate has been here since 1939, lovingly cared for by four generations of our family.

We harvest fruit from heritage trees and the hedges bordering our fields: eating and cooking apples, blackberries, crab apples, rose hips, elderflower, sloes, pears, plums, damsons, greengages and quince. These are made into jams, jellies and conserves that have fed our friends and families for decades. We harvest a variety of fallen hard wood trees and remove them to maintain the natural beauty of our woodland. They are seasoned and chopped by hand in a wood-barn at the heart of our farm. We deliver and stack the logs to customers in the local area or you can come to our farm and collect it yourself.

There have always been sheep on the farm, though their numbers have varied over the years. We currently have a flock of Black Welsh Mountain sheep and a handful of Suffolk x Texel lambs. The barn they call home has had many visitors: It once housed over 2,000 chickens whose eggs supplied the local village and surrounding areas. When the time came for them to move on, other local farmers used the space to house cattle, next to our store of hay bales harvested from the fields they grazed.

Our largest field borders Gildings Barn, a gorgeous venue used for weddings and other events. This is one of the many places we have had the pleasure to host and cater for many special occasions.
